It sounds like you had a great time. I bought some snowshoes for the winter ahead and I've already had a similar experience in Whistler. Snowshoeing is a surprisingly "Zen" sport.

Adam,

At one point I was told that the reason employers did not wear identifying markers was some sort of "self filter". You had to seek them out. I am not sure that works too well with engineers. Outgoing != skill.

Other than the (clearly professional) recruiters of Rally (http://www.rallydev.com/) who seemed very popular, the busy chaps from ReadyTalk (http://www.readytalk.com/) and TravelFli (http://www.travelfli.com/), only Gnip Central (http://gnipcentral.com/) caught my eye. I didn't find but two of the companies (both in the above) that I wanted to meet.

I know others were there (some behind the bar serving drinks) just not easily identifiable/accessible.

Maybe we were supposed to "stand out/get noticed" (come in Halloween costumes dressed as a zombie iPhone or something ;-) to be sought by stealth employers.

Seriously though, more likely ... was that already stretched employers (from small companies) were tired from a long week of promoting themselves/Boulder and filtering candidates. Don't forget that this was "locals night" (not the "selected 100") so perhaps they chose to prioritize & get some rest.

regards,

Adam

BTW: I benefited most from your insights into the companies. Thanks for those.

Adam,
It was indeed great to meet you last night at the boulder.me event. It indeed comes natural to attach the url when communicating about the event, and of course, having a face to go on as well certainly helped I'm sure. ;-) I was a bit perplexed on the focus of the locals night myself as the companies seemed to have gone into hiding for the most part for the locals. I'm sure that this being the first event there are some learning curves, but overall I must say as an outsider, it has been an enjoyable experience.

Cheers

My read of this is "no benefit" not even word association:

 http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2005/01/preventing-comment-spam.html

but not a lot I can do to test this. I've tried the Google link: search (http://www.google.com/intl/en/help/operators.html#link), and those links definitely do not show up, but that doesn't explicitly answer your question.

That said, comment link to your hearts content. :-)

You mean... if I mention that I use <a href="http://www.positiveware.com" rel="nofollow">PositiveWare</a> for my time tracking, client management and billing... I'll get zero SEO value?

What if I say that I love using <a href="http://www.wildobs.com" rel="nofollow">the best wildlife observation site on the web - WildObs</a> to track my occasional encounters with non-human wildlife... or I want people to look at my <a href="http://www.wildobs.com/doug_hays" rel="nofollow">WildObs Profile</a>.

While there's no SEO bump for the links... there has to be some SEO bump for the association between "wildlife observation" and "Wildobs" in the content... right?

Just a thought.
Doug.

Hmm, GMaps and Scriptaculous are not playing nicely:

 http://code.google.com/p/gmaps-api-issues/issues/detail?id=795

.. so request a slightly older version of Google Maps.

This is a useful link to have:

Shame it isn't a feed.
